2020 Mercedes-AMG A45 Wants To Redefine The Hot Hatch Class

We’ve already seen the new generation Mercedes-AMG A45 testing on a number of occasions, and most recently dropping most of its camo. Now, it’s been snapped going round the Nurburgring again, presumably for some fine-tuning, and then stopping for fuel on its way back.

The short video posted at the bottom of the page allows us to check out some of the styling updates over the regular A-Class, as well as the AMG A35, in detail. The most striking feature is the different front grille, with vertical slats, as well as its unique front and rear bumpers.

The quad exhaust pipes, large brakes and different wheels are also specific to the A45, while the roof-mounted wing seems to be similar to the one found on the A35. The front and rear logos, as well as the AMG badges, are still hidden beneath the vinyl stickers, but its identity is pretty clear.

Its most impressive feature, though, is found behind that large grille. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder will make the new A45 the most powerful hot hatch ever, as recent reports point to a whopping 415 hp in top “S” spec, and 383 hp in the base version.

Mercedes could unveil it this summer, prior to its motor show debut at Frankfurt in September, but nothing is official yet.
