2020 Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 Shooting Brake Hauls More Than Just Groceries Thanks To 415 HP

High-performance wagon fans can rejoice as Mercedes-AMG has introduced the new CLA 45 Shooting Brake.

Staring under the hood, the model has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 382 hp (285 kW / 387 PS) and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque. It is connected to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and a standard all-wheel drive system. This setup enables the car to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.1 seconds, before hitting a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

Drivers looking for something more powerful can opt for the S variant which features an upgraded engine with 415 hp (310 kW / 421 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque.  Thanks to the extra grunt, the dash from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) is cut to four seconds flat.  The top speed also climbs to 168 mph (270 km/h).

Performance changes aren’t limited to the engine compartment as the model has been equipped with an aluminum shearing plate, a strut tower brace and additional reinforcing plates.  The wagon also sports AMG Torque Control, a sport-tuned suspension and a high-performance braking system with AMG-branded calipers.  Other highlights include an electro-mechanical sports steering system and an AMG Dynamic Select system with a variety of different modes.

On the styling front, the model follows in the footsteps of the A 45 and CLA 45.  As a result, it features a Panamericana grille which helps to distinguish the model from the more mainstream A35 Shooting Brake.

The model has also been equipped with a more aggressive front fascia that features an integrated splitter.  Out back, there’s a ventilated rear bumper, a sporty diffuser and a four-tailpipe exhaust system with tips that measure up to 3.5 inches (90 mm) in diameter.

Moving into the cabin, drivers will find microfiber and faux leather sport seats with red contrast stitching.  The two-tone theme is further amplified by designo red seat belts, high-gloss black trim and chromed air vents with red accents. The S variant is largely identical, but it swaps the red accents for yellow flourishes.

Regardless of which model is selected, both come equipped with an MBUX infotainment system that features AMG-specific displays.  The model also sports a digital instrument cluster and voice recognition technology.
