At 4,225 Pounds, The 2020 Shelby Mustang GT500 Is One Heavy Brute

An 86-page e-book for the 2020 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 has emerged online thanks to Mustang6g and reveals a number of previously-unknown details about the most powerful road-going ‘Stang ever made.

One of the most important pieces of information listed in the e-book provided to Ford dealers and sales staff is that the GT500 has an approximate curb weight of 4,225 lbs (1,916 kg). By comparison, the GT350R weighs more than 400 lbs (181 kg) less than its bigger and more powerful brother, while the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is also significantly lighter at 3890 lbs (1764 kg). At least the GT500 is more slender than the 4,450 lbs (2,018 kg) Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.

While the GT500 is no lightweight, it does have the brakes necessary to bring it to quick and consistent stops when driven hard on a racetrack. Up front there are 16.5-inch multi-piece disc brakes with six-piston Brembo monobloc calipers and, at the rear are, four-piston Brembo monobloc calipers clamping down on 14.5-inch rotors. Another interesting tidbit we’ve noticed is that if you go for the optional Carbon Fiber Track Pack, you also get adjustable strut top mounts that allow owners to adjust the front camber for optimum performance.

The headline of the Mustang GT500, though, is its engine – and what an engine it is! Displacing 5.2-liters, the V8 is fitted with a massive supercharger and pumps out 760 HP and 625 lb-ft (847 Nm) of torque. All that is sent to the rear wheels courtesy of a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission from Tremec. So, a heavyweight (in the literal sense) it might be, but the GT500 does pack quite a punch too.
