Audi A8 55 TFSI Looks Absolutely At Ease Traveling At 165 MPH

The new A8 features an evocative exterior design, a luxurious and futuristic interior and, in 55 TFSI form, is also pretty fast.

Sitting under the skin of the Audi’s luxury saloon is a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 delivering 340 HP and 396 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque.

While it could be easy to dismiss its performance credentials when you consider some premium sedans have more than 600 HP, but for the vast majority of owners and most driving scenarios, you don’t need any more than that, even in a vehicle that weighs more than two tons (4500 lbs) like the A8.

During a recent drive on the Autobahn, AutoTopNL were able to launch it to 62 mph (100 km/h) in a very respectable 5.6 seconds. However, that’s not what impressed us the most. Instead, what’s noticeable is how remarkably stable it is when driving along at its 267 km/h (165 mph) indicated top speed.

Mind you, the Autobahn has been getting some heat lately about its parts that have no speed limit (contrary to popular belief, they aren’t that many). While not everyone goes pedal to the metal, no matter how much power they have at their disposal, the unrestricted sections do allow car manufacturers to develop vehicles that can run at high speeds in supreme comfort and without breaking a sweat for hours on end; and drivers, if they so choose, to let their rides stretch their legs without breaking the law, of course…
