BMW M5 Competition In Austin Yellow Metallic Is A Head Turner

When BMW introduced the M4 to the world, it unveiled the sporty two-door in an all-new color dubbed Austin Yellow Metallic.

While this flamboyant paint job has kinda become synonymous with the M4, in recent years, a number of other BMWs have emerged painted in the same hue – like this M5 Competition.

Our research indicates that, while Austin Yellow Metallic was originally only offered on the M3 and M4, it has since become part of the BMW Individual catalog and is available for all BMW models as long as their buyers are willing to tick the respective box. This particular M5 Competition doesn’t look bad, but we think the super sedan looks even better finished in a dark shade of blue or red.

Powering the BMW M5 Competition is a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 delivering 617 hp. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and an advanced all-wheel drive system, it enables the Bimmer to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in roughly 3.0 seconds, making it faster than many (much pricier) supercars. As a result, virtually anyone brave enough to race an M5 Competition like this one would be starring at the Austin Yellow Metallic paint as the car sped off into the distance – unless they’re sitting in a Chiron or something like that.

Much like the current Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63 S, the all-wheel drive system of the M5 and M5 Competition can be disabled to turn the car into a rear-wheel drive monster. Acceleration in RWD mode is slightly worse due to the inevitably inferior traction, but it does make the vehicle even more exhilarating to drive.
