BMW M8 Lapped The Nurburgring In 7 Min 30 Sec During Testing, According To Spotter

The long-awaited BMW M8 is just around the corner and recent sightings of prototypes testing at the Nurburgring reveal that it will be fast. Very fast.

Nurburgring expert Misha Charoudin recently attended a high-performance testing day at the German racetrack and saw a number of prototypes hit the track. Among these was an M8 and with his trusty stopwatch, Charoudin was able to estimate that the prototype lapped the circuit in roughly 7 minutes 29.5 seconds.

While it’s worth noting that simply timing a car lapping the ‘Ring like this isn’t foolproof, it could be accurate within a couple of seconds.

If we take the 7:29.5 lap time to be spot on, that would put the M8 in impressive company at the circuit. Cars like the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, 991-generation Porsche 911 GT3, and Lamborghini Huracan all have times around this mark. The M8 prototype filmed was the Coupe but if the four-door Gran Coupe can lap the circuit in around the same time, that would put the BMW very close to toppling the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe 63 S from the list of fastest four-door vehicles at the Nurburgring.

We know that the BMW M8 will be powered by the same twin-turbocharged V8 engine as the M5 with about 620 hp on tap. Like the M5, power will be sent to all four wheels.

Much like the regular 8-Series, the M8 will also be a comfortable car to spend time in, but as the car’s unofficial Nurburgring lap time indicates, it will also be capable of some neck-snapping performance.
