Chevrolet Details 2020 Bolt, Confirms 259 Mile Range

Following a report earlier today, Chevrolet has officially unveiled the 2020 Bolt.

The big news, as expected, is an increased range of 259 miles (417 km). That’s a 21 mile (34 km) improvement over its predecessor and Chevrolet says the extra range will enable the model to be even more appealing as it will allow customers to travel further between recharging sessions.

The extra range was made possible due to improvements made to the chemistry of the battery’s cells. This means Chevrolet was able to increase the car’s range by nearly ten percent without having to change the physical battery pack.

In a statement, GM’s director of global battery cell engineering and strategy said “The Bolt EV set the benchmark for long-range, affordable electric vehicles, and we’re excited to raise the bar by offering nearly 10 percent more EPA-estimated range for the 2020 model year.” Tim Grewe added “We’re constantly listening to customer feedback and we heard the desire for more range” so out team “worked diligently to find ways to improve battery energy, giving customers the confidence to go more than the extra mile.”

The 2020 Chevrolet Bolt will arrive at dealerships later this year and pricing starts at $37,495 – including destination and freight charges. That’s the same price as its predecessor so if you’re in the market for a Bolt, you’d be crazy not the wait until the 2020 model arrives.

There doesn’t appear to be any other significant changes, but Chevrolet confirmed there will be two new colors including Oasis Blue and Cayenne Orange Metallic.  The latter is an extra cost option.
