Electrify America And EVgo Join Forces To Simplify U.S. Charging Network

Two of the biggest players in the EV public charging market, Electrify America and EVgo, have announced an agreement to increase access to public charging stations across the United States.

A recent announcement from the two companies states that owners of electric vehicles will be able to use their networks without having to create new memberships, registrations, or payment methods for each service. This will connect more than 3000 DC fast chargers at more than 1,000 EVgo and Electrify American stations and make charging that much easier.

“As the demand for EVs continues to increase and create the need for more EV charging stations, we understand the importance of making access to public chargers as easy as possible for current and future EV drivers,” president and chief executive of Electrify America Giovanni Palazzo said. “Connecting our two networks helps ensure EV drivers have the freedom to travel on their terms without concerns of where to charge their EV along the way.”

EVgo chief executive, Cathy Zoi, commented: “Since 2010, EVgo has been working to provide convenient and reliable fast charging across the country, and this new partnership will help to further accelerate EV adoption by providing even more options to drivers wherever they need them most.”

In June, Electrify America announced a similar partnership with ChargePoint that allows EV owners to use both the company’s charging stations through a single account, connecting more than 30,000 Level 2 and DC fast chargers from the two companies.

As Tesla continues to offer its Supercharging network exclusively to Tesla owners, it is becoming increasingly common and popular for other companies to collaborate to ensure stations are easily accessible to those who happen to own EVs from a different brand. And with all major automakers preparing an onslaught of battery electrics, their clientele will surely boom very fast.
