Ford Charges An Absurd $10,000 For Painted Stripes On Shelby Mustang GT500

Want the new 2020 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 with painted racing stripes running along the length of the car? It will cost you.

Those buying the new Mustang GT500 can opt to have it painted in a single color but if they’re willing to add $1,000 to the total price, can have vinyl racing stripes placed over the car. If that’s not enough to satisfy some, Ford will also sell you painted racing stripes for the monstrous muscle car but they cost an extraordinary $10,000.

To the untrained eye, the vinyl and painted racing stripes seem identical, but look a little closer and you’ll notice the difference. Whereas the vinyl stripes stop a few millimeters before the edges of the body panels that they’re applied over, the painted stripes seamlessly cover the length of the muscle car. Is that alone worth an extra $9,000? We’re not convinced.

What we are sure about the new Mustang Shelby GT500 is that it should be a truly extraordinary performance car. Powering the vehicle is a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine making no less than 760 hp and 625 lb-ft (847 Nm) of torque. This engine is paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission from Tremec that can change gears in just 80 milliseconds.

With a straight piece of tarmac ahead of it, the ultimate Mustang can rocket to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.5 seconds and sprint down the quarter-mile in under 11 seconds. Prices for the mighty ‘Stang start at a very reasonable $73,995 in the U.S. including the destination charge and gas-guzzler tax.
