McLaren 720S, Ariel Atom 4 And BMW S1000RR Go At Each Other

The McLaren 720S is one of the fastest road-legal vehicles on the planet, but can it out-accelerate a 2019 BMW S1000RR superbike and an Ariel Atom 4?

If you were to wind back the clock a decade, the answer would be no. Not only was McLaren Automotive yet to be formed, but with the exception of perhaps the Bugatti Veyron, there were no stock cars on earth quicker than a 1000 cc superbike. However, it is 2019 now and things are very different.

Thanks to huge advances in technology and the raging power war, supercars are quicker than ever and the 720S has established itself as a force to be reckoned with, as it can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in under 3 seconds all day long.

To see if the 720S, in Spider form no less, can keep pace with the latest S1000RR, Autocar organized a little race between the pair. An Ariel Atom 4 was also thrown into the mix but, although it’s anything but slow, against these two it never stood a chance.

In the first race, the BMW got an incredible start and was neck-and-neck with the McLaren for the first part of the half-mile sprint. It eventually pulled ahead and was able to cross the line slightly ahead of the 720S. The Atom was left far behind.

For the second… well, enough spoilers; after all, watching the three-way race is much more fun.
