Mighty Car Mods Turns A VW Golf R Into A Supercar Slayer

The VW Golf R certainly isn’t the boldest hot hatch on the market but it is exceptionally popular and easy to modify. It’s only fitting then that the guys over at Mighty Car Mods in Australia decided to use a Golf R as the base for a project to turn a hatchback into a supercar destroyer.

The Golf R, featured here in Mk7 guise, is fitted with a punchy 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with an impressive 295 hp between 5500 and 6200 rpm and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of torque between 1800 and 5500 rpm. The combination of all-wheel drive and an optional seven-speed dual-clutch transmission make it pretty quick off the line with 62 mph (100 km/h) passing in 4.9 seconds.

Mighty Car Mods set itself a challenge of turning a regular Golf R, the Wolfsburg Edition no less, into a car which can hit 100 km/h in the 3-second range and perform 11-second quarter mile runs in just 24 hours. To do so, Marty and Moog from the channel recruited a couple of mechanics to help with the modifications and were fortunate enough to be provided with two performance kits from aftermarket company Revo.

These kits are the Performance Pack and Power Pack and includes things like a new intercooler, intercooling piping, intake, tune, turbo, turbo muffler delete, exhaust, engine mounts, fuel pump, and more.

The project is covered in three different parts, all of which are well worth watching. If you’re a fan of the Golf or a fan of modifying cars in general, you may be impressed with just how ‘simple’ it is to turn a VW hatchback into something that can run 11.6-second quarter miles all day long.
