New BMW X6 M Ain’t Scared Of No ‘Vettes, Chases Them At The Track

Another spy video posted online shows the 2020 BMW X6 M doing some more track testing. It also shows it breathing down the neck of some sports cars, including prototypes of the all-new Corvette C8 that was officially unveiled a few hours ago.

The Munich firm’s high-performance coupe SUV had many close encounters of the third kind with other vehicles at the Nurburgring on that day, but the clip mostly focuses on its marvelous engineering. Customers should expect better performance, sharper cornering, improved grip and perhaps a more comfortable ride compared to the outgoing X6 M.

Exterior updates such as the reworked front bumper with larger air intakes, new rear bumper, tailgate spoilers, quad exhaust pipes, different wheels and M badges will be its defining features. Furthermore, a few interior updates, likely including some trim revisions, carbon fiber inserts, contrast stitching, leather-wrapped M steering wheel and M-branded gearshift lever will draw a clear line between the M and non-M versions of the new-gen X6 inside.

The biggest difference, of course, resides in the engine bay, where the 2020 X6 M will feature a 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8 with 600 PS (592 hp / 441 kW) in “base” trim and 625 PS (616 hp / 460 kW) in Competition spec (peak torque is the same, at 750 Nm / 553 lb-ft).

We have yet to find out when and where BMW will host the official unveiling of the new X6 M, but the Frankfurt Motor Show in September seems like a safe bet.
