Niki Lauda’s Race-Winning Ferrari 312T Could Sell For Up To $8 Million

A Ferrari 312T Formula 1 car driven to victory by Niki Lauda will be auctioned off this coming August by Gooding and Company in Pebble Beach.

The 312T in question is chassis 022 and was driven by Lauda on a number of occasions during his 1975 championship-winning season. He claimed victory at the French Grand Prix in this exact car and also secured pole positions each of the five times he raced it.

While we don’t know why the current owner decided to part ways with the car, it might have something to do with the fact that Lauda recently passed away, likely increasing its value.

Under the ownership of the seller, the 312T received a comprehensive restoration from Ferrari specialists at Dennison International and Byers Custom and Restoration for the paintwork. The car was awarded a third in class at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and has been driven at a number of private track events. Powering the racer is a 3.0-liter flat-12 and a transverse gearbox.

“This 312T offers entry into the Monaco Historic Grand Prix and FIA Masters Historic Formula One series,” David Gooding told Forbes. “As demonstrated by its third in class at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, these cars are welcome on major concours show fields. The car is surprisingly friendly to run, and potential buyers shouldn’t shy away from using it as intended.”

Pre-auction estimates believe the car will sell for between $6 million and $8 million.
