Porsche’s New 718 Cayman GT4 Is Extraordinary Around The Track

Hardcore Porsche fans and driving enthusiasts around the world were waiting for the return of the GT4 badge in Porsche’s mid-engined sports car and it’s finally here, faster and better than ever.

When we say faster, we mean faster around a track, with Porsche saying that the new 718 Cayman GT4 has lapped the Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 28 seconds, making it not only 12 seconds faster than its predecessor, but also four seconds quicker than the mighty Carrera GT!

That’s some impressive leaps in performance from Porsche’s hardcore track warrior, which is now powered by a new, naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six producing 414hp (420PS) and 310lb-ft (420Nm) of torque.

As before, a six-speed manual transmission is the only option, but if you believe the rumors, Porsche is planning to add a PDK option later on as well.

Straight-line performance is strong, with 62 mph (100 km/h) coming in 4.4 seconds (the same with the previous model), while top speed was increased by 8 mph, to 188 (302 km/h,) thanks to the more efficient aero package.

The chassis has been updated with new dampers, control arms and ball joints, which in conjuction with the aero revisions make the 718 Cayman GT4 more stable and precise than ever.

Carfection had a quick go in the new Cayman GT4 on a demanding Scottish track to get a first taste of the revisions and that new engine. Did they like what they found out? Oh yes, indeed…
