Skoda To Unveil Facelifted 2020 Superb On May 23

The 2020 Superb will make its first official appearance in less than two weeks from now, on Thursday, May 23. The set chosen by Skoda for the debut of their updated midsize car is the Ice Hockey World Championship in Slovakia.

The announcement comes only a few days after they teased the car by using a sketch previewing the styling. Recent spy shots of lightly-camouflaged prototypes show updated light clusters at both ends along with new ‘SUPERB’ lettering applied to the boot lid.

Don’t expect any big improvements in the cabin either, where the main change will be a revised center console with larger infotainment screens.

The engine lineup will be given a refresh, with the biggest news being the adoption of a plug-in hybrid powertrain, likely sourced from the Volkswagen Passat GTE, which should give it a zero-emission range long enough for the daily commute: 50 km or 31 miles.

A little bit of the Karoq in the announcement too

Aside from revealing when and where the facelifted Superb will be presented, Skoda also demonstrated the Karoq’s practicality again, in tone with the sports event that takes place in Slovakia. The Scout model was chosen to see if it can fit 2,000 pucks in the boot, which is how many will be needed over the next three weeks of the championship.

The strange marketing scheme follows another one, in which the compact SUV had to fit 1,000 bidons used by professional cyclists in the trunk nearly two years ago. Before that, the automaker invited a girls’ rugby team to fill the seven-seater Kodiaq up to its roof, thus highlighting the midsize SUV’s roomy interior. You can see all these videos below.
