Hot hatches have never been more exciting than they are now but few modern examples are quite as insane as the Clio V6 was back in the day.
Renault introduced the Clio V6 in 2001, and while most hatchbacks feature small three- or four-cylinder engines and front-wheel drive, the souped-up Clio was rear-wheel drive and featured a rear mid-engine V6. The Phase 1 model was built between 2001 and 2003, and received a number of modifications in Phase 2 guise for the 2003, 2004, and 2005 model years.

What you’re looking at is a Phase 1 car, one of just 1513 examples built. It is up for sale in Canada on Auto Trader with an asking price of $59,995 ($44,742 U.S.) and while that’s a lot of money, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a keen Renault enthusiast prepared to pay that much. The car has 31,459 km (19,547 miles) under its belt and is No. 28.
All Phase 1 and Phase 2 Clio V6 models featured a 2.9-liter V6 engine. Whereas the later Phase 2 models pumped out 252 hp and 221 lb-ft (300 Nm) of torque, the Phase 1 like this example offered up 227 hp and the same 221 lb-ft (300 Nm) of torque. That may not sound like a lot in a world where 400 hp hot hatches are becoming increasingly common, but it is still enough to get your adrenaline pumping.
Would we be willing to pay almost $60,000 CAD (US $45,300 at current exchange rates) for one? Probably not – but we’re pretty sure someone is…
