Watch Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro (Unofficially) Lap The ‘Ring In 7:06.6

The Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro was set loose at the Nurburgring Nordschleife by the folks over at SportAuto, who handed over the keys of the brand’s most hardcore model of the series to test driver Christian Gebhardt.

The run was filmed from the passenger’s perspective and reveals just how challenging it was to put the car through its paces, hitting speeds up to 300 km/h (186 mph).

The result was an impressive 7 minutes and 6.6 seconds, a 6-second improvement over the regular AMG GT R, which Gebhardt drove at the track more than two years ago. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS, demonstrated by the same driver, was 1 second faster.

Keep in mind that this was an unofficial timed lap, so we could see AMG achieving an even faster lap. Before unleashing the car, automakers tend to calculate everything, from the temperature to the wind speed and direction, giving the green light in optimal conditions only.

The AMG GT R Pro is limited to 750 units and starts at just a little over $200,000 in the United States, with the destination and delivery charge included. That’s a hefty amount, but it’s a lot of car for the money that’s been fine-tuned to be better than the GT R.

The 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8’s output is identical to the non-Pro variant, making 585 PS (577 hp / 430 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. The performance numbers are the same, too, with the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) taking 3.6 seconds and a 318 km/h (198 mph) top speed.
