Columnist jokes that Matt Preston has made it impossible for large men to dress stylishly

Wine columnist and media personality Nick Ryan has taken a playful swipe at MasterChef’s judge Matt Preston and his famously flamboyant attire.

In an article penned for Adelaide Now on Sunday, Nick said that he, as a large man, hates being compared to Matt every time he dresses stylishly.

‘Be a big bloke who tries to show any kind of sartorial flourish and you’ll quickly hear the words ‘Oh … that’s a bit Matt Preston’,’ Nick lamented in his opinion piece.

The writer also poked fun at Matt’s famous love for cravats, which Nick described as: ‘an article of clothing I’d only ever consider wearing if an invite to an orgy at Lord Byron’s place turned up in the mail.’

However despite his frustrations, Nick admitted that Matt is in fact a wonderful person who simply needs to revise his sartorial senses’.

It comes after journalist and food judge Matt revealed he dresses unusually on purpose so he can ‘stand out from the crowd’.

‘I think for me it’s the whole difference between style and fashion; style should be what you want to wear,’ the father-of-three told Confidential in 2016.

Matt’s impeccable style includes a number of well-cut colourful suits and fancy cravats, many of them handmade by his friend and designer Leona Edmiston.

He also likes to switch up his eye-catching ensembles with mixed and paisley prints, including tartan and pinstripes.

The TV personality admitted to Executive Style his TV attire stemmed from clothes he had been wearing as a 16-year-old punk rocker in London.

‘Having said all this, it is always how you wear things that matters and as an old punk rocker I’ve never really been a big fan of conforming to what the media thinks a bloke should wear,’ he told the publication.

‘If Aussie men relied on the media, we’d all still be wearing ties and pale blue shirts with charcoal suits to work.

‘And how dull would that be!’
