Ex-Rolling Stone Bill Wyman says he was ’stupid’ to think his marriage to Mandy Smith would work

Bill Wyman, 82, has opened up on his regret of marrying Mandy Smith because of their 34 year age gap.

The rock and roll legend tied the knot with the beauty in 1989, when she was just 18 and he was 52.

The Rolling Stones star made the confession in the documentary The Quiet One, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on Thursday night.

In the film, Wyman defends his relationship with her ex teenage wife by sharing: ‘It was from the heart. It wasn’t lust, which people were seeing it as.’

Reflecting on the decision to marry the young blonde, he added: ‘I was really stupid to ever think it could possibly work. She was too young. I felt she had to go out and see life for a bit.’

Wyman, who was one of the founding members of the iconic rock group, was part of the Rolling Stone’s line-up from 1962-1993.

The Quiet One is written and directed by British filmmaker Oliver Murray and features footage and photos from Wyman’s years with the Stones.

The documentary has been pulled from England’s Sheffield Doc/Fest next month because of the rocker’s scandalous relationship with Smith.

The story also touches on his family life growing up in working class London and his tough relationship with his father.

During the documentary, the guitarist talks about his womanizing in the early days of the Stones’ success and talks about its contribution to the breakdown of his first marriage to Diane Cory.

The pair were wed for ten years between 1959 and 1969.

He and Diane share a son Stephen, who Wyman fought for and won custody of when he felt that his former wife was not taking care of their son.

Wyman married his third and current wife Suzanne Accosta in 1993, who he shares three daughters with.
