Mike Sorrentino was spirited away by his castmates on Thursday’s episode of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation after he was sentenced to eight months in prison.
‘I did not expect this result to be handed to me,’ Mike, 37, admitted as he weighed whether or not to go on the trip. ‘Maybe it’s a good idea that I get some time with my friends.’
The Situation in January entered the Otisville Federal Correctional Institution in Otisville, New York, after spending the holidays with his friends and family.
Prison sentencer: Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino went to a dude ranch with his pals after being sentenced to eight months in prison on Thursday’s episode of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation
His Jersey Shore pals were shocked by the length of his sentence, even though they knew he could get 14 months for tax evasion.
‘I cannot believe this,’ said Deena Cortese, 32, hearing the verdict. ‘He’s become such a better person; he’s done everything correctly. It just doesn’t make sense.’
‘I just don’t want one of my best friends to go through that,’ noted pal Vinny Guadagnino, 31, who feared for Mike’s well-being in the ‘isolated,’ ‘harsh’ prison environment.
No one was more dismayed than Mike himself, who felt he should have gotten probation but was determined to be held ‘accountable’ and ‘responsible’ for his past crimes.
Dude ranch: The 37-year-old reality star went to a dude ranch in Lake George, New York with his roommates
Unexpected sentence: No one was more dismayed than Mike himself, who felt he should have gotten probation but was determined to be held ‘accountable’ and ‘responsible’ for his crimes
‘I believe they wanted to make an example out of me,’ he offered, adding that his real involvement was ‘minimal,’ and that no one had ever gone to jail for his specific crime.
‘It literally has [cost] me, I would think, close to a million dollars to defend this case the past five years,’ Mike noted.
At first, the cast heard on the news that Mike had gotten two years in prison, which sent the girls weeping and made Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, 33, punch bathroom walls.
Getting emotional: Nicoke ‘Snooki’ Polizzi cried as she learned that Mike was sentenced to a lengthy prison term
It turned out that sentence was actually handed down to Mike’s brother Mark Sorrentino, also accused of violating federal tax laws and now serving time in New Jersey.
‘I damn near flipped the table,’ said Pauly ‘DJ Pauly D’ Delvecchio, 39, as everyone awaited further news.
After his sentencing, Mike jumped into a car outside the courthouse, avoiding reporters but waving to fans.
Silent star: After his sentencing, Mike jumped into a car outside the courthouse with his then-fiancee Lauren
‘I need to go get my head together,’ he said to then-fiancée (now wife) Lauren Pesce, 34, as they rode home.
‘I guess I’m gonna get that much-needed rest between seasons I’ve been thinking about,’ he mused.
The next day, the cast threw Mike a party to cheer him up, buying ‘all the bright-colored food… you would bring to a children’s party,’ Vinny said: Funfetti cake, Doritos, chips.
Cast party: Vinny Guadagnino and Ronnie Ortiz-Magro bought Mike’s favorite foods as the cast tried to cheer him up after his sentencing
They used donuts to toast to Mike ‘living his best life.’
Mike seemed sanguine. Family, love and friendship were what mattered most, he opined, and he had all three.
‘I’m holding my head high right now,’ Mike testified.
Junk food: The friends ate Mike’s favorite foods together as they tried to cheer him up
The gang told their pal they would be taking him to the Stony Creek dude ranch in Lake George, New York.
‘He wants to go to a food ranch, not a dude ranch,’ Vinny joked.
But the next day, as everyone met for the trip at Vinny’s house in Staten Island, New York, Mike was a no-show.

After an executive producer revealed that ‘Big Daddy Sitch’ was having ‘a tough morning,’ they drove to his home to get him and he finally agreed to come.
He joined them at a café near his apartment, where they greeted him with a line from Goodfellas.
‘Hey! You popped your cherry!’ everyone cried, slightly misquoting a line that referred to a character’s first arrest.
Rescue mission: Vinny and Paul ‘DJ Pauly D’ DelVecchio checked in on The Situation
‘These guidos can always make me laugh,’ Mike said. ‘Even in the craziest of situations.’
Mike finally explained that he had been up all night, worrying about the future and his family. As his mind raced, he felt unable to get himself packed for the trip.
They were able to leave ‘on a high note,’ said Jenni ‘JWoww’ Farley, 33, unfurling a ‘Free the Sitch!’ banner across their van.
Tough time: Mike was having a tough time but rallied and went on the trip
Then, at a rest stop, the group got locked out of that van.
‘This is seriously why guidos do not go on road trips,’ Jenni pointed out. ‘Like, we f***ed it up.’
Pauly used a gas station tool to pop the van’s door and get them back on the road again.
Good work: Pauly celebrated as they were able to convince Mike to join them
Once they arrived at the ranch, Deena, who was pregnant, got her own cabin, but proved too scared to stay alone.
Castmate Angelina Pivarnick, 33, balked at staying with her, saying she had a bad back and needed a real bed.
Frustrated, Jenni carried her own bed over to the cabin to give to Angelina, then took a lesser mattress back.
Bed drama: Jenni ‘JWoww’ Farley carried a mattress to appease Angelina Pivarnick
Still upset: Angelina remained upset about the bedding
‘Bigger problems in this world,’ she huffed. ‘Our f***ing friend’s going to jail for eight months.’
Angelina kept complaining. Annoyed, Deena screamed at her, telling her she didn’t have to do anything at all.
‘You’re stressing the pregnant woman out,’ said castmate Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi, 31.
Screaming match: Deena Nicole Cortese screamed at Angelina to get over it
‘F*** my life, Mike,’ Angelina told The Situation, before Deena, blaming her pregnancy hormones, apologized.
Switching gears, the group decided to blow off some steam and go line dancing at a nearby bar.
‘I mean, I’m more of a fist pumper myself, but if everyone here’s doing line dancing, I’m game,’ Pauly volunteered.
Line dancing: The group decided to blow off some steam by going line dancing together
Jenni danced with a stranger, leading the cast to joke that she might have come to a dude ranch to find a dude.
But Ronnie privately thought she was just covering up the pain of her ongoing divorce from ex Roger Matthews, 44.
‘There’s no way that you are happy right now,’ he said about Jenni in his confessional.
Covering up: Ronnie felt that Jenni was covering up the pain from her divorce
The cast next went to tell scary stories around a fire.
Just as the fun began, Ronnie confessed that his girlfriend, Jen Harley, 33, might be pregnant again.
The couple had their first baby, Ariana Sky, in April 2018.
Second child: The group was shocked when Ronnie revealed that his girlfriend Jen Harley might be pregnant again
‘She’s late,’ he told the group.
‘How late?’ Jenni asked.
‘Enough,’ he said.
Running late: Ronnie told the group that Jen was late
‘My mind is blown right now,’ Mike declared.
‘Yo, Vinny, Ronnie’s pregnant again,’ someone shouted to the cast member, who had just joined them.
‘Are you serious? Pull the f*** out. What the f*** is wrong with you?’ Vinny asked.
Volatile relationship: The potential pregnancy had Ronnie’s friends worried because of his rocky relationship with Jen
Everyone was particularly worried because Jen and Ronnie had a volatile relationship.
Just the day before, he told them about a beat-down he’d gotten in which Jen happened to be peripherally involved.
He was allegedly jumped by a ‘random person’ in Secaucus, New Jersey, he told the group.
Black eye: Ronnie told his friends that he was jumped by a ‘random person’ in Secaucus, New Jersey and had a black eye and a long scratch on his face
He had a black eye, and a gash on his head, but he’d failed to fight back, he said, because of Jen’s presence.
Everyone thought the mention of Jen was suspicious, especially since Ronnie had a long scratch on his face.
Pauly, who had been in many fights, said he had never been scratched by a guy.
Fight scratch: Pauly, who had been in many fights, said he had never been scratched by a guy
‘You get scratched by a girl,’ he said.
In a confessional, Nicole also shared her concern.
‘We just never know where they are in their relationship—if they’re happy, or they’re fighting in public, or she’s dragging him in a car,’ she explained.
Never know: Snooki in a confessional said they ‘never know where they are in their relationship’
‘I just want them to be good before they bring another baby into the world.’
Ronnie was optimistic.
‘I love being a father,’ he said, adding that he thought the second time would be better.
‘I’m excited about it,’ he continued to camera. ‘I would rather have another child with Jen than… another woman.’
Still upbeat: Ronnie remained optimistic about the prospect of having another child with Jen
Jen would take a pregnancy test on his return, he noted.
‘Apparently they’re fine,’ muttered Jenni. ‘As he’s sitting there with a f***ing black eye.’
Bothered by his friends’ jibes, Ronnie walked off.
Vinny then told a ‘scary story’ about Ronnie and Jen’s relationship, which got everyone to retire to their cabins.
Scary story: Vinny told a scary story around the campfire about Ronnie and Jen’s relationship
At light’s out, Pauly hid a fake bug in Vinny’s bed as he lived up to his self-proclaimed title as ‘king of pranks’.
The next day, the cast went fishing. Vinny nervously picked up the bait, and it flopped out of his hands.
‘That’s how you get salmonellas,’ Mike teased him as he screamed. ‘That’s how you get warts.’
Fishing time: Pauly tried to fish along with the others but they were out of their element
He lamely cast his line into the water.
‘The guidos are not very good at fishing,’ Mike said.
After a disastrous boat ride, half the cast went drinking.
Boat ride: Snooki held onto the sides of a boat during a rough ride with Ronnie
‘It is amazing how you can put Ronnie and Nicole in the middle of nowhere and they will find a bar,’ the Situation offered.
Horseback riding was next, though only three of them could go as the rest had been drinking.
Pauly cut a hole in his cowboy hat to protect his blow-out.
Custom fit: Pauly cut a hole in his cowboy hat to protect his blow-out
Nicole put a carrot in her mouth and tried to feed a goat – a move the rest of the cast successfully discouraged.
Back at the bar, Jenni asked Ronnie whether he and Jen were really pregnant.
Ronnie asked Jenni about her divorce.
Bad idea: Snooki put a carrot in her mouth to feed a goat but her friends stopped her
‘Why aren’t you letting us support you?’ he wondered.
As everyone left for dinner, Nicole and Ronnie, the ‘Spiral Squad,’ got wasted, and joined the bar’s band.
Jersey Shore: Family Vacation will return next week on MTV.
On drums: The Spiral Squad of Snooki and Ronnie got drunk and joined the band
