Ore Oduba EXCLUSIVE: TV host says Strictly brought he and wife Portia ‘closer together’

Ore Oduba has given his thoughts on the Strictly Come Dancing curse, saying the show actually brought he and wife Portia closer together.

The BBC series has become notorious for the romances that have sprung up between celebrity contestants and their dance partners over the years.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Ore, 33, admitted he can see why ‘factions’ can occur on the series if people aren’t seeing enough of their other half.

He said: ‘You’re spending a lot of time outside your day to day life to make the show happen.

‘Hoping to have as much fun as I wanted to have, I wanted to make sure my wife was a part of it. I would come home and she would want a daily report.

‘We would go through the routine and she would offer her own thoughts. She was like my assistant choreographer.

‘For us, it brought us closer together but it’s not easy for some people. It’s a bubble. If people dear to you are not there, factions can occur.’

On the most recent series, Seann Walsh and his dance partner Katya faced a huge backlash after pictures surfaced of the pair locking lips on a night out in London.

Seann was in a long-term relationship with Rebecca Humphries at the time, whilst Katya is married to fellow Strictly pro, Neil Jones.

Elsewhere, winner Stacey Dooley has reportedly bought her own home after moving in with dance partner Kevin Clifton following her split from ex Sam Tucknott.

Ore won Strictly Come Dancing in 2016 with Joanne Clifton and said the show came along at the right time in his life.

He said: ‘That time [of my life], I was able to embrace it. We were married less than a year and had no kids. Portia was a huge part and the timing was right.’

Ore and Joanne were crowned the champions after beating out fellow finalists Louise Redknapp, partnered with Kevin Clifton, and Danny Mac with Oti Mabuse.

The show is well-known for its demanding schedule to ensure celebrities master their intricate dance routines.

Ore said: ‘It’s difficult. I always feel for the soap actors and breakfast presenters because they have a crazy schedule.

‘They’re up at four in the morning doing their show and then they’re in rehearsals. It’s relentless the longer you go.’

The TV presenter and his wife are proud parents to son Roman who was born in January 2018.

Speaking about the tot, Ore said: ‘He’s brilliant.  He’s coming into his own in such a short space of time.

‘He’s our world, we would do anything for him. His smile goes as wide as the world is round.’

Should Roman ever hope to follow in his father’s footsteps one day, Ore said he will be supportive, but make his son aware of the ‘ruthless’ nature of showbusiness.

He said: ‘We’ll both be very supportive parents. TV is pretty cut throat.  The path I’ve taken is not the normal path and I’ve had amazing people help me along the way.

‘It’s a ruthless business and I’d make him aware of that. There’s people who will fall by the wayside and won’t make it.

‘But if you really put your mind to something, you can achieve anything. If I see potential in him, I will be on him like a rash.’

Ore and Portia, who married in November 2015, have considered expanding their family in the future.

He said: ‘We’ve talked about it. One child is a lot, it’s like a beautiful bomb going off in your life and you have to get a blinker.

‘For the last five or six months, I’m like “alright, we are stable again”. All in good time.’

Ore’s career has recently taken a new turn with his role in the stage production of Grease: The Musical where he appeared as a Teen Angel alongside Peter Andre.

He said: ‘Strictly made me realise how much I love being on stage and I thought musical theatre was the way to go.’
