He worked at the same TV station as brother Karl Stefanovic for 14 years, until they were both axed from their shows last December following the ‘Ubergate scandal’.
Previously praising the now-axed veteran Today host, 44, as being his ‘mentor’ in the industry, Peter Stefanovic, 37, claims he now refrains from asking Karl for advice.
Ahead of his new role at Sky News, Peter told Daily Telegraph on Saturday: ‘I am going to work it out for myself for a little while and learn from my mistakes.’
‘I am going to work it out for myself’: Peter Stefanovic (R) claims axed Today host brother Karl (L) is ‘possibly the best broadcaster in the country’ but he no longer asks him for career advice
Karl was a host on Channel Nine’s Today for 13 years between 2005 and 2018, with Peter announced as the co-host of Weekend Today in 2016.
They were both axed from their respective morning programs – Today and Weekend Today – in December, 2018.
However, Peter only had the highest of praise for his older brother: ‘He is still one of the best broadcasters in the country, if not the best, and he is valuable and he has got a lot of experience as a journalist and as a broadcaster and he is a bloody good bloke and he is a great brother and things are going to be fine for him.’
Karl is still employed by Channel Nine, but has been notably absent from screens in recent months.

In January, 2018 – almost a year before they were both axed from Nine’s popular breakfast programs – Peter told Nine Honey: ‘I’m always calling him for advice on how to do things better.’
‘He’s a great mentor for me, Karl, he tells me things to work on, or things that might not be working, or how to move to different levels. He’s a good brother and a good man,’ Peter said at the time.
He sad some of Karl’s key pieces of advice were relating to ‘bringing energy to the screen’: ‘No one wants to watch someone who’s tired or slow… you’ve got to be up, you gotta be bright, you gotta be smart, you gotta be witty!’

‘I was embarrassed, I was ashamed’: Peter recently reflected on the infamous ‘Ubergate’ scandal he and brother Karl were embroiled in last year
Last year, Peter and brother Karl were embroiled in the ‘Ubergate’ scandal after their private phone conversation in a taxi was leaked to the press.
During the conversation, Peter complained about his role on Weekend Today and the Stefanovic brothers also criticised Nine staffers and executives.
Reflecting on the scandal last month, Peter spoke candidly about his feelings of shame and embarrassment to The Herald Sun.
‘I was embarrassed, I was ashamed about it all too because I got my network into trouble… I got my wife [Sylvia Jeffreys] and brother [Karl] into trouble; and I took that really hard,’ he said.
New beginnings! Peter will start his new role as a co-host of Sky News First Edition on Monday, July 1 (Pictured with his new co-host Laura Jayes)
