Pia Miller claims she’s pleased Instagram is hiding the number of ‘likes’ on people’s posts

While many Instagram users were left outraged by the photo app’s changes on Thursday, Pia Miller wasn’t one of them.

Speaking to PopSugar, the 35-year-old former Home and Away star said she was ‘happy’ the social media site is now hiding ‘like’ counts.

In a new trial, Instagram announced they were hiding the amount of ‘likes’ posts generated from followers, with only the person uploading the photo able to see.

The controversial move raised eyebrows with a lot of Instagram users, but Pia perceives it as a good thing. 

‘I want to live and raise my sons in a world where within the the realm of social media or any media platform it becomes a form of expression not validation,’ she told PopSugar. 

‘As a creative the desire to express is part of who I am and what I do – not to be confused with the desire to impress.

‘So with that, I am happy to see the end of the like count and if someone wants to express their thoughts through a comment I’d welcome it because at least it would be somewhat conscious and considered.’ 

In an interview with the Herald Sun’s Stellar Magazine in August last year, Pia admitted she’s calculated in the sort of posts she shares on her Instagram.

‘I recognise that I have a lot of female followers and I think it’s helpful for them to see that you can be comfortable in your own skin – stretch marks and all,’ she said of sharing bikini photos.

And she claimed she’s never chased fame, only ever wanting to provide for her two sons, Isaiah, 16, and Lennox, 12.  

‘Who I am has nothing to do with how I look. People can make judgements, but I definitely haven’t had an easier time because I look a certain way,’ she said. 

‘The only reason I went back into modelling after having Isaiah was to provide for him. Fame was never the objective.’
