Sophie Turner shuns Maisie Williams’ request to be her plus one at the X-Men: Dark Phoenix premiere

She got married to Joe Jonas last week without inviting her best pal Maisie Williams.

And now actress Sophie Turner has dealt another blow by shunning Maisie’s request to be her plus one at the premiere for forthcoming X-Men film, Dark Phoenix.

Sophie, 23, posted a tweet about a contest she’s involved with for Omaze, offering one fan the chance to attend the screening with her.

‘Want to be my plus-one at the Dark Phoenix premiere and hang with the X-Men cast? It’s all to support 4 incredible causes!’ she posted to the micro-blogging site.

Maisie piped up, replying: ‘omg pick me pls.’

To which Sophie responded: ‘Fat chance.’

The exchange was merely in jest, with the pair of Game Of Thrones stars notoriously close friends.

She recently revealed that Maisie – who has played Sophie’s character Sansa Srark’s younger on-screen sister Arya throughout the entire run of the show, since they were both teenagers – helped her through tough times.

Speaking to Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine, Sophie recounted how filming scenes of rape for GOT ‘does have lasting effects’.

Of Maisie, she said: ‘She’s really helped me through all this and I hope vice-versa, because we both started off at such a young age and we felt like no one else understood us.

‘We’ve often helped each other out when one of us was feeling low. Without Maisie, I don’t think I would have coped as well as I did.’

It was because of her performances on Game Of Thrones that she landed the part of Jean Grey (played by Dutch actress Famke Janssen in the previous films) in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse.

Also known as Marvel Girl, Jean Grey is a caring, nurturing mutant with telepathic and telekinetic powers who helped the X-Men save the earth in Apocalypse, and Sophie will take centre stage in the follow-up Dark Phoenix, which is out in June.

When she’s hit by a cosmic force during a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean’s dark side – the Dark Phoenix – is unleashed and she loses charge of her abilities, spirals out of control and threatens to tear the X-Men family apart.

‘It’s not like any other X-Men film,’ said Sophie. ‘It’s very grounded, very emotional – very character-driven in a way that might shock people.’

Although she is still relatively new to the Marvel superheroes family, she says she’s thoroughly enjoying being part of it: ‘I love that there are so many incredibly powerful female characters.

‘So many times in the past we’ve seen women portrayed as wives, girlfriends, receptionists, but Jean is a real multi-dimensional character who’s flawed and makes mistakes, so she’s complex and interesting.’

Off the screen, she lives happily in New York and recently married musician Joe Jonas of The Jonas Brothers, who she met after he contacted her on Instagram.

The couple announced their engagement in October 2017, and unexpectedly married in Las Vegas last week.

Sophie has said that being with the extrovert singer has done a lot for her self-confidence.

‘When someone tells you they love you every day, that makes you think about why that is, and it makes you love yourself a bit more.’
