What's Rising

Anneka Rice, 60, ‘set to appear on the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing’

TV presenter Anneka Rice has reportedly signed to be apart of the star-studded line up on the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing, according to The Sun.

The star, 60, who has remained out of the spotlight in recent years, is considered to be a ‘top signing’ for the long-running programme due to her popularity.

A TV source revealed that Strictly bosses tried to bag Anneka for last year’s series before managing to seal the deal for this year’s version.

They said: ‘Strictly believe they’ve made a top signing in Anneka.

‘She’s a TV institution and a familiar face to viewers who’ll be rooting for her. Anneka is in great shape and can’t wait to strut her stuff.’

MailOnline have contacted representatives for Strictly and Anneka.

Anneka, who has remained largely out of the spotlight since quitting TV to raise her three children in 1995, appeared on Lorraine last month to mark the 40 year anniversary of her starting in the industry.

When she quit the industry, Anneka was fired by her agent and rather than seeking out a new one, the star revealed that she decided to become her own.

Lorraine said to Anneka: ‘For years and years, you didn’t have an agent but you did. It was you. Clemmy Hart was your agent, but you were Clemmy.

‘So people would phone up and say, ‘Hello, can I speak to Clemmy Harry, Anneka’s agent?’ and it was you who was on the phone.’

Anneka replied: ‘It was a way of keeping in touch with the world but not wanting to do the work because I was busy painting at that stage.

‘My agent sacked me and I just thought this was ridiculous, who can I find?

‘Then I just found this person who was so efficient, she was fun to deal with, everyone loved her and it was me.’

Lorraine remarked: ‘Clemmy is your alter-ego. It is you being yourself. I think it’s wonderful.’

Feminist: Anneka said: 'I was such a feminist, I don't want to have sex with James Bond, sorry. I'm very happy to hang out of a helicopter and kill some people, have a gun, abseil down…'

Anneka said: ‘You know what’s it like. You get all these jobs. I remember one was to go on Safari for three weeks and learn to be a Safari ranger.

‘I couldn’t do it because I had children at home. Clemmy wanted to do it but I didn’t.’

Anneka, who has been in a relationship with Simon Bell for 14 years, has three children from two previous relationships.
