Ben Fordham reflects on becoming a father again while his own dad is dying

‘It’s not a great prognosis for him’: Australian Ninja Warrior host Ben Fordham says having a third child is bittersweet as his father is dying

Australian Ninja Warrior host Ben Fordham is overjoyed about the impending arrival of his third child.

However it is a bittersweet feeling given the fact Ben’s father, John, is battling throat cancer.

‘It’s not a great prognosis for him,’ the Channel Nine star told TV Week on Monday.

John was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2017 after he discovered a lump on his neck.

And despite beating the disease, he recently discovered the cancer had returned.

But the Fordhams are not letting the situation beat them, and John is remaining positive.

‘Dad has always taken the approach that he’s here for a good time, not a long time,’ Ben said.

He added: ‘He’d rather enjoy himself than sit around worrying about the future.’

Ben is keen to bestow that kind of positivity on his own family, especially since his wife Jodie Speers is expecting the couple’s third child.

The couple, who married in 2011, are already parents to four-year-old son Freddie and one-year-old daughter Pearl.

Ben has recently started getting into shape, partly because the Australian Ninja Warrior contestants have inspired him and also to set a good example for his kids.

He told TV Week that he wants to be able to ‘jump on the trampoline’ and climb trees with his children for a good while yet.

Australian Ninja Warrior continues Monday at 7:30pm on Channel Nine
