At least it wasn’t another sex scene! Channel Seven pushes the envelope AGAIN by airing harrowing suicide montage during midday movie

A harrowing suicide scene isn’t the most appetising of lunch-time viewing material.

But that didn’t stop Channel Seven from airing Lifetime’s M-rated film A Daughter’s Revenge at midday on Monday.

While the network has a history of airing raunchy midday movies, it was the shocking scene involving a woman committing suicide by shooting herself in the head that really rattled audiences on Monday.

Released in 2018, A Daughter’s Revenge tells the tale of Elle Spencer (Jessica Sipos) and her thirst for revenge after her mother Michelle’s (Claire Rankin) tragic suicide.

Michelle ends her own life in her bedroom after discovering that her husband was having an affair.

During the scene, Michelle is seen gazing down at a hand gun before pointing it to her head and closing her eyes.

The scene cuts away, but the sound of a gun-shot indicates that Michelle chose to pull the trigger.

Perhaps even more disturbing to audiences was the following scene, which saw a panicked Elle running to her mother’s room to find her lying dead on the bed.

Elle blames her stepfather David (Linden Ashby) for Michelle’s death and begins searching for revenge.

She eventually hatches a devious plan to use her best friend Anna Bellcroft (Sierra Wooldridge), who had just been released from prison following a DUI, as the unknowing instrument of revenge.

Elle decides to frame Anna as her stepfather’s obsessive secret lover, using her as a pawn in her twisted game of payback.

Despite airing in the middle of the day, the film does not appear to breach the commercial television Code of Practice.

Under the existing Code of Practice for Australian free-to-air TV, any material classified ‘M’ can be aired on school days between 12pm and 3pm.
