‘Put your phones down, you don’t need to share this with anybody’: Childish Gambino urges fans to live in the moment while headlining Splendour In The Grass 2019

It’s one of Australia’s most influencer-friendly festivals on the calendar.

But at Splendour In The Grass on Saturday night, Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) urged everybody in attendance to keep their mobile phones in their pockets.

Taking to the stage at North Byron Parklands in Wooyung, the Hollywood star, 35, revealed he had two rules he’d like the crowd to follow while performing.

‘I got two rules,’ he declared during the opening song, as reported by ABC

The musician, actor and producer continued: ‘Rule 1: Love me and love yourself.

‘Rule 2: Put your phones down. You don’t need to share this with anybody out there. This is for us, treat it like church.’

While performing at Perth’s HBF Arena on July 14, he echoed a similar sentiment, telling fans to ‘have an experience’ away from their screens.

Throughout his 90 minute headline set on Saturday, the star put on a show-stopping performance, even removing his shirt midway through.

In a bid to maximise audience interaction, he had a catwalk especially erected so he could get in among the revelers on the floor.

The stage design was a mix of mesmerizing projections, laser beams and smoke machines, all creating an angelic silhouette around Donald.

Making it a night to remember, he was joined by a six-piece band as he powered through hit after hit, including; Sober, 3005 and Redbone.

Donald also addressed his cancelled Australian tour from November 2018 on stage, where a foot injury forced him to scrap all shows just weeks before last year.

‘It took me a long time to get here,’ he announced on stage on Saturday, as reported by the ABC in their review.

‘You guys are tucked away and it’s hard to get here, but you guys are worth every drop of sweat.’
