Meanwhile, Paddy took to Instagram as he recovered at home following his vasectomy.

The Top Gear presenter, 45, who shares twins Leo and Penelope, five, and daughter Felicity, two, with Christine, livestreamed details of the operation and his recovery on Instagram.

He penned: ‘Home now after having the auld snippy snappy snoo. Currently resting up with a bag of ice on my nadgers. #vasectomy #testicletuesday’.

A vasectomy, or male sterilisation, is a procedure to cut the tubes that carry a man’s sperm to permanently prevent pregnancy without further contraception. It can usually be done under local anaesthetic and takes about 15 minutes.

Explaining what had happened, Paddy shared a video with his followers, in which he said: ‘Well patient McGuinness is home. I’ve gotta tell you, gentleman if you’re thinking of having a vasectomy and you’re a bit reluctant as I was…

‘The initial anesthetic they give you in the old pippins – I’m not going to lie that’s tender. That made my eyes water but after that’s it’s a doddle… I’m currently resting up at home with a towel full of ice on the nickedy nackedy noos.’

After speaking through his state, he then flashed both his hospital wristband and also an ice pack he had placed on his intimate area.

Paddy’s operation comes after he has been reunited with his wife Christine after various stints of working away while filming.

While she was thrilled to be back with him, she recently explained that no one questions him for not being around for their children – even though he’d only been home five times in 30 days due to his work commitments.

Clearly thrilled to have him back in the family home, she shared a loved-up snap of them on Instagram in April, writing: ‘Mine’ in the caption.

Christine noted that while her husband Paddy works hard, no one ever questions how little he is home with the family.

She wrote: ‘My husband has been home five times in the last 30 days, he is a busy, hard working man, but no one ever asks him who is looking after his children… (me of course).

‘I go the gym for 45 minutes whilst they’re at school and get questioned on who is looking after my children! God bless equality.’

The couple have spoken openly about the challenges they face with Leo and Penelope, who are both autistic.
