The event acted to launch a string of celebrations – including exhibitions, theatre shows and workshops – to mark the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots, which saw protests against police harassment of the New York gay community.

Ciara’s appearance at the event comes after she was forced to hit back at a critic after she came under fire for her role in Taylor Swift’s star-studded music video for You Need To Calm Down, where she was seen to officiate a gay wedding.

One of her followers wrote to the star: ‘Ciara. You shouldn’t be doing this. We respect u too much, Being at a gay wedding is one thing and joining them together is even more a greater sin. We love you but this is wrong.’

Earlier this month, Ciara said there was a magical chemistry with her husband Russell Wilson when they first met.

The Thinkin Bout You singer, appearing on Red Table Talk, opened up about how she felt when she first crossed paths with the Seattle Seahawks quarterback, saying ‘it was different’ from other connections she had past made.

‘I had never had that feeling in my life, it was just, like, calm. We were connecting in every way.’ said Ciara, who tied the knot with Russell in July of 2016 at an English castle.
