Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon has become the seventh cast member to quit the soap after four years of playing Bethany Platt.
In a statement the star, 23, told MailOnline she made the ‘extremely difficult decision’ to leave the show when her current contract comes to an end in 2020, but went onto praise her ‘lifelong friends’ in the cast.
Lucy’s departure comes as the seventh soap star to quit Corrie in three months, and follows hot on the heels of Katie McGlynn, who reportedly quit the soap on Wednesday.

In a statement Lucy said: ‘After the most incredible 4 years, I have made the extremely difficult decision to leave Coronation Street at the end of my contract in 2020.
‘It’s hard to put into words how much this show means to me. I’ve made lifelong friends with some of the most talented and hardworking people in the industry, I’ve had some terrific and immensely important storylines and I’ve laughed with the best people everyday.
‘I’m so thankful to Iain and everyone at Coronation Street, I owe everything to them and I will miss them greatly.’

Producer Iain MacLeod added: ‘Lucy advised us at the start of this year that she would like to leave at the end of her current contract in 2020 to pursue other projects.
‘She is an amazing performer and has been at the centre of some huge stories for us during her time on the show.
‘I have no doubt that her stellar career will continue beyond the cobbles and would like to wish her all the best in whatever she does next – starting with the brilliant final chapter of Bethany’s story!’

Meanwhile a source told The Sun: ‘It’s a nightmare blow for bosses after losing Faye Brookes and Katie McGlynn so close together and has thrown the show into chaos.
‘Lucy’s been in Corrie just under five years and feels now is the right time to try new things.
‘Everything is amicable and there isn’t any anger there. Bosses are keen to leave the role of Bethany open in case Lucy does want to return in the future.’

Lucy joined the cast of Corrie in 2015 as Sarah Platt’s tearaway daughter Bethany, who ran away from her home in Milan in a bid to reunite with her family in Weatherfield.

Since first arriving on the cobbles, Lucy has received much praise from viewers for her performance, especially in a 2017 storyline which saw Bethany groomed and abused by Nathan Curtis.

The teen was pimped out by the tanning shop owner who painted the facade that he was her boyfriend, before he was eventually arrested and jailed for the crime.
While Bethany has slowly recovered from her ordeal in recent months, the immediate aftermath saw her work as a lap dancer, but she lost the job after assaulting a customer who she mistook for her abuser Nathan.
Lucy received the National Television Award for Best Serial Drama Performance in 2018 for the grooming storyline, and also won Best Actress at the British Soap Awards that same year.
On Thursday it was also revealed that recurring actor Liam Bairstow would be taking a break from the soap, as he took to social media to announce he had wrapped filming for now as Alex Warner.

A source told MailOnline: ‘Katie is fully committed to playing out the extremely important storyline she is currently portraying on screen.
‘This story still has a long way to go. Any speculation threatens to undermine the storyline for viewers.’
Sinead’s fate on Coronation Street currently hangs in the balance, as she has been battling cervical cancer after delaying treatment for the sake of her unborn son.
After giving birth to baby Bertie earlier this year, Sinead finally started treatment, but bosses have already said it is undecided whether the character will survive.

The exits are the latest in a long line of departures for the Corrie cast in the past three months, though it is unclear whether they are connected.
On Tuesday Faye Brookes also announced that she would be leaving the ITV soap after four years of playing Kate Connor.
She tweeted: ‘Thanks to everyone for your amazing support, but after 4 fabulous years in Weatherfield it’s time for me to explore new opportunities.
‘I’ve loved playing Kate Connor, but she needs a break for a little while and so with a song in my heart I’m off to pastures new. #kana #corrie♥️.’

In February Kym Marsh also announced that she would also be leaving Corrie, after 13 years of playing Michelle Connor.
She told The Sun: ‘When I was lucky enough to be offered four episodes I could never in my wildest dreams have thought I’d be here 13 years later.
‘It’s been an incredibly difficult decision but it feels like the right time for me to explore some other roles.’
Last month fans also saw two Corrie stars leave the soap on-screen after previously announcing they had quit their roles.
Bhavna Limbachia – who plays Rana Habeeb – was tragically killed off in March’s Underworld roof collapse in March.
Her exit came as a shock to fans, as the actress previously hinted it would be a while before her final scenes would air.
And Connie Hyde – who plays Sally Webster’s sister Gina Seddon – also departed the cobbles in March in the aftermath of the roof collapse.
