Daniel Radcliffe shares never-before-seen childhood photos

He shot to fame at the tender age of 11 when he scooped the role of Harry Potter in the film franchise.

Yet despite being one of the nation’s best known child stars, Daniel Radcliffe, now 29, unearthed a set of never-before-seen photos from his youth.

During filming for BBC1’s Who Do You Think You Are? Daniel offered a glimpse into his life away from the rolling cameras and red carpets.

One snap showed the actor, aged 13, cradling his beloved border terriers Binka and Nugget while at his family home in Fulham, south-west London.

Paying homage to his Harry Potter role, the star sported a Gryffindor T-shirt.

Another heartwarming photo showed three-year-old Daniel feeding the ducks swaddled in a blue parka with fur trim while he sported an adorable bowl cut hairstyle.

Taken in 1992, Daniel – who turns 30 this week – grins a toothy smile while clutching fistfuls of bread.

Another photograph showed the actor at the age of two nestled beside parents Marcia Gresham and Alan Radcliffe while on a day out at Bantham Beach in Devon.

The unseen photos are to be shown on the latest episode of BBC1’s Who Do You Think You Are? set to air on Monday evening.

The show will delve into the Harry Potter actor’s family history, where he was told about his his ancestor’s fate on the emotional episode.

Daniel is set to break down in tears as he reads his great-grandfather’s suicide note after he took his own life following a robbery at his Hatton Garden jewellery shop.

It emerges that Daniel’s relative Samuel Gershon killed himself after £3,000 worth of jewellery was stolen in the infamous 1936 Hatton Garden raid.

Police officers suggested Mr Gershon was in on the crime and intended to submit a fraudulent insurance claim, the Times reports.

A document from the police at the time said: ‘Jews are so frequently responsible for the bringing down of their own business premises.’

The actor appears astounded by the revelation, saying it’s ‘very jarring’ to see being a Jew treated as evidence against his relative.

Mr Gershon, who died at the age of 42, was facing bankruptcy. In the heartbreaking note, addressed to his wife Doll, he said: ‘I can assure you my angel, to leave a girl like you is more than a wrench.’

Daniel has himself been open about his own struggles with his mental health – earlier this year, he said he turned to alcohol as a way of coping with his fame.

Speaking on Off Camera With Samuel Jones, he said: ‘In my case, the quickest way of forgetting about the fact that you were being watched was to get very drunk and then as you get very drunk, you become aware that, oh people are watching more now because now I’m getting very drunk, so I should probably drink more to ignore that more.’

On Who Do You Think You Are? Daniel adds that he wonders if his great-grandfather took his own life because his reputation had been destroyed despite being innocent, or if he was guilty.

He added: ‘You want to reach into the past and just go: ‘Whatever you’re going through, you have so much to offer the people who are around you still… you have so much to give to them. And they still would all have loved you.’

Meanwhile, Daniel’s next film will be Escape From Pretoria which he was spotted filming in New York in June.

In the upcoming movie, the actor plays South African activist Tim Jenkin, who was imprisoned in Pretoria’s Maximum Security prison in the late 1970s.

Filming began for the highly-anticipated movie at Mitcham train station, in the suburb of Lower Mitcham, Adelaide, in February.

The movie is written and directed by Francis Annan and based on Tim Jenkin’s autobiography, Inside Out: Escape From Pretoria Prison.
