DMX is back in the acting saddle.

This time, the rapper is playing a detective in the upcoming film Chronicle of a Serial Killer.

In the first behind-the-scenes photo from the film, he flashes his badge alongside director Steve Stanulis.

He will star as Detective White, who’s tracking down a serial killer, played by Brendan Sexton III.

It’s an interesting casting choice, given the Romeo Must Die actor’s extensive rap sheet.

But given that the role originally went to Michael Madsen before he was kicked off the film over a recent DUI charge, the role seems to be in good hands.

In March, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that the Reservoir Dogs actor hit a pole in Malibu while driving with a blood alcohol level of .08.

Last week, he pled not guilty to a charge of driving under the influence, and he’s due back in court next month.

With this being his second DUI in less than 10 years, the first of which happened in 2012, he faces up to 364 days in jail if convicted.

But Stanulis is so confident in DMX for the role, he wasn’t even required to audition.

The director told TMZ that the Grammy-nominated rapper is ‘going to bring a different dynamic to the role.’

On the 10th anniversary of her death, DMX told Billboard of his close friend: ‘She was easy to talk to and down to earth.

‘Aaliyah made you feel comfortable, with her and with yourself. That’s one hell of a combination.’
