Stone will play a young Cruella gaining her bearings as a department store employee in ‘early 1980s London with a punk rock vibe,’ according to the Hollywood Reporter.
After she has a run-in with the Baroness, played by Emma Thompson, she’s directed on a quest to get her hands on a family heirloom.
This prequel story sets up Cruella’s famous obsession with capturing puppies.
Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, and Julianne Moore were also considered for the role of the Baroness in favor of Thompson, however Thompson is listed on the film’s IMDb page.
Craig Gillespie, the mind behind I, Tonya and Lars and the Real Girl will direct the prequel.
And according to Variety, Tony McNamara and Dana Fox have teamed up to pen the script.
Cruella is set for a release date on December 23, 2020.
