A right royal gaffe! Fiona O’Loughlin reveals the awkward moment she said the F-word in front of the Queen and Prince Philip after her husband broke protocol by shaking the monarch’s hand
Fiona O’Loughlin once accidentally swore in front of the Queen and Prince Philip while meeting the Royals for the first time.
The 55-year-old comedian recalled the awkward experience on Today Extra on Monday, revealing the F-word slipped out when she was trying to apologise for the fact her husband Chris had broken Royal protocol.
Unfortunately, the gaffe resulted in further embarrassment for the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Australia winner.
Oops: Fiona O’Loughlin once accidentally swore in front of the Queen and Prince Philip when meeting the Royals for the first time
Fiona explained that she had mistakenly asked Prince Philip if Chris had ‘f**ked up’ by shaking the Queen’s hand.
It is understood that when meeting a member of the Royal family, you should not touch them.
The mishap occurred when Fiona and Chris were invited to meet the Queen and Prince Philip during their visit to Alice Springs many years ago.
‘The Queen was coming to Alice Springs and they invited 50 of the flashiest people they could find,’ she said.

Fiona continued: ‘I’m pretty sure my husband and I came in at 49 and 50! We were the only two people that hadn’t met her.
‘I saw my husband break protocol and shake the Queen’s hand.
‘He said, “G;day, I’m Chris!” and I raced from one side of the room to the other… but I’d had a few glasses of personality.
‘I turned to a stranger on my left and said, “Did he just rhymes-with-duck [f**k] up?” and Prince Phillip lent down and said,”Not as much as you just did, sweetheart!”‘
Not ideal: Chris had taken it upon himself to meet the Queen and shook her hand – going against a long considered taboo that you shouldn’t touch a Royal when you meet them
Taking the cringeworthy gaffe in her stride, Fiona added: ‘I don’t care what anyone says, [Prince Philip] is a funny guy.’
‘Some of the stories I tell, I’ve told them so many times, I’m not even sure they actually happened, but I’m pretty sure this one happened.’
Fiona and Chris, who share five children together, previously split in 2012 before later reconciling.
She is a recovering alcoholic who spoke candidly about her recovery while on the Australian version of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! last year.
Called out: Fiona tried to smooth over the incident by asking Prince Philip whether her husband had ‘f***ed up’, to which Philip replied: ‘Not as much as you just did, sweetheart’
Milestone: Fiona marked her 33rd wedding anniversary with husband Chris in September 2018
