ABC Television has announced former foreign correspondent Lisa Millar will be the new co-presenter of its breakfast program, replacing Virginia Trioli
Former foreign correspondent Lisa Millar will replace Virginia Trioli as the new co-presenter on ABC television’s News Breakfast.
On Tuesday, current co-presenter of the program Michael Rowland revealed on air Millar would be taking over from Trioli and joining him on the couch on August 19.
During the big reveal, Rowland showed a photo of Millar, which he said was ‘if for nothing else, to embarrass you’.

Millar, who joined the breakfast hosts for the reveal, couldn’t help but let out a laugh when a photo of herself gushing in front of Prince Harry popped up on the screen.
As the trio laughed, Rowland jokingly said the show had received a tweet from the palace to congratulate Millar on stepping into her new role.
Triloli interjected, saying: ‘I’m so sorry Lisa, I leave you with these dreadful jokes, there’s really nothing I can do about that.’
Millar replied: ‘You’re not passing the baton, you’re passing the Rowland. Here he is, do what you will.’
Trioli added: ‘It’s a blessing and a burden, but it goes together.’
The transition is expected to be a smooth one for Millar, who filled in for Trioli earlier this year while she was on long service leave.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Millar announced she would be taking on the role, with an accompanying photo of herself and Rowland.
‘Excited to be working with this guy @mjrowland68 A great journalist and a wonderful friend,’ Millar wrote.

Trioli also wrote on her Twitter: ‘I can’t help her here – she just has to steel her nerves and go over the top.’
The ABC has also announced Rowland will take on an additional role as the ABC’s Senior Network Presenter.
Trioli is leaving the show to replace departing ABC Melbourne morning radio host Jon Faine in August. Her final News Breakfast show will be on August 15.
Millar returned to Australia last October after overseas postings in the United States and Europe.

‘I’ve been travelling quite a bit in regional Australia since I got back and people are always asking me about the brekky team and whether everyone is as nice and friendly as they seem,’ Millar said.
‘The answer is a definite ‘yes’. And I can’t wait to join them.’
As well as co-presenting News Breakfast, Rowland will have a new role anchoring coverage of big local and world events across ABC News programs and platforms, including the 7pm TV news.
‘I look forward to drawing on my experience as a foreign correspondent, and the dozens of on-location broadcasts I’ve hosted for News Breakfast over the years, to bring to ABC audiences breaking stories from around Australia and around the world,’ Rowland said.
