Grant Denyer claims comedian Tom Gleeson is ‘desperate’ to win Gold Logie

‘His desperation is unparalleled!’ Grant Denyer claims Gold Logie nominee Tom Gleeson’s disdain for the TV award ceremony is ‘all an act’ and will ‘go to any level to win’

Last year’s Gold Logie winner, Grant Denyer, is not supporting ABC host Tom Gleeson in his bid for the coveted gong on Sunday.

A day before this year’s award ceremony takes place on the Gold Coast, Grant has slammed Tom’s nonchalant campaigning as ‘an act’.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, the 41-year-old said: ‘I am not sure I entirely believe he is just taking the p**s and he hates the Logies, because his desperation is unparalleled.’

‘It is all an act. He is desperate and will go to any level to get it. I have never seen anyone want something more than him,’ Grant added in the scathing interview.

Grant has already publicly voiced his disappointment at Tom’s parody videos and smear campaign tactics, and claimed he was ‘ripping the heart out of The Logies’.

During a segment on his 2DayFM radio show, Breakfast with Grant, Ed & Ash, on Thursday he accused Tom, 45, of making a ‘joke’ of the Logies and ‘effectively taking the p**s’ out of the ceremony.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Tom Gleeson’s management for comment.

Tom, who has been nominated for a Gold Logie this year, had campaigned for Grant to win the award in 2018 – albeit as a joke.

Grant ended up winning the Gold Logie, and many industry insiders believe he only achieved this because of Tom’s tongue-in-cheek support.

The former Family Feud host insists this isn’t true, however, saying: ‘He jumped on at basically the eleventh hour and took over my campaign. I didn’t ask him to, I didn’t really want him to.’

He continued: ‘He’s done interview after interview after interview claiming [credit for my] victory last year. Forget the 20 years of work that I put in to get to that point, he’s now [saying], “I got Grant Gold. He hasn’t even bought me dinner.”‘

Grant said it annoys him that ‘everybody in the country now thinks I won the award because of him’, adding that Tom appears to be on a mission to destroy the credibility of the Logies.

According to Grant, Tom’s fellow Gold Logie nominee Amanda Keller deserves to take home the top prize at this year’s ceremony.

He described her as ‘wonderfully warm’ and ‘incredibly whip smart’, adding that she  is a ‘game-changer and a ground-breaker’ in the industry.

Grant added: ‘But Tom Gleeson has just taken all of the headlines, he’s been real angry about it, he’s hammering me for not supporting his campaign this year. I don’t really owe him anything!

‘I’m worried that if he wins, that’s it for the Logies forever.’
