Grant Denyer slams Tom Gleeson for ‘hijacking’ his campaign to win a Gold Logie last year

Grant Denyer and Tom Gleeson finally had a showdown on The Weekly With Charlie Pickering on Wednesday.

The pair switched switched chairs for a Hard Chat-style interview, with Grant, 41, slamming the ABC comedian for ‘hijacking’ his campaign to win a Gold Logie last year.

Grant sat in the grilling chair and gave Tom, 45, a piece of his mind – with hilarious results – admitting that Tom’s involvement in the campaign still ‘s**ts’ him.

Renamed as Small Talk, Grant reveled in the opportunity to berate the Hard Quiz host, yet when the topic quickly turned to the Logies, the silver tongued Tom wasn’t going down without a fight.

After Grant teased he hadn’t achieved his level of success because he was yet to win one, Tom instantly quipped: ‘You only won it as a joke.’

‘When I win it, it will be for having a show that’s actually popular and on air [Hard Quiz].’

Clearly irked, Grant then fired back: ‘You hijacked my campaign and now everyone thinks I won a Gold Logie because you hijacked it.’

‘That’s not a question. It just s**ts me,’ Grant said.

Grant sensationally won a Gold Logie last year after he was axed from the now-defunct show, Family Feud.

At the time, Tom embarked on a social media campaign to land Grant the gold, with him tweeting: ‘Let’s push the Logies to its most absurd extreme ever and give the Gold Logie to a guy that doesn’t have a TV show.’

It comes after Tom revealed to Stellar magazine last week that he had ‘no regrets’ over ‘hijacking’ the campaign.

‘I did hijack it. It’s an award for the most popular person on TV and it’s been decided by the general public voting,’ he said.

‘If you can convince people to vote, it’s perfectly legitimate,’ he continued.

‘For years people have complained about the Logies being rigged, so I thought why not be open about it, and have fun with it?’

Ironically, the comedian has been nominated for this year’s Gold Logie, and is determined to walk away with the prized statue.

‘The idea of winning the Gold Logie is so preposterous that I have to have it,’ Tom told Stellar.

‘It is so stupid, and it makes me laugh so much, that it makes me want it.’

The comedian is nominated for both the Gold Logie and Most Popular Presenter, for his Hard Chat segments on ABC’s The Weekly with Charlie Pickering and Hard Quiz.

He is currently the bookies favourite to take away the award, ahead of Amanda Keller, Waleed Aly and Rodger Corser.
