While she’s a brilliant Oscar-winning actress and the enterprising head of a sprawling lifestyle brand, Gwyneth Paltrow might not be the best when it comes to remembering things.
The actress, 46, had another bout of forgetfulness with regard to her involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to an interview Marvel head Kevin Feige recently conducted with Empire Magazine.
According to the studio honcho, when he assembled the multitude of MCU actors in 2017 to film the now-famous funeral scene for Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame, many of the performers were caught unawares by the presence of each other—including Paltrow, who didn’t understand why Nick Fury performer Samuel L. Jackson was there.
Forgetful Pepper: Gwyneth Paltrow had another bout of forgetfulness with regard to her involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to an interview Kevin Feige; here the actress is seen in 2010’s Iron Man 2
‘With the funeral scene shooting before Black Panther, Infinity War, Ant-Man And The Wasp and Captain Marvel had even come out, there was some amusing confusion on set with the mass cast gathering,’ Feige said. ‘Tom Holland [was] coming up to me, saying, “Is that Michelle Pfeiffer? What is happening?”‘
‘Gwyneth Paltrow [was] asking why Sam Jackson was there, and the other actors [were] jumping in saying, “What are you talking about? He’s Nick Fury! You’ve been in movies with him.”‘
While it could be seen as somewhat understandable that Paltrow made the oversight – the pair after all hadn’t shared a scene together, at that point – Gwyneth had indeed been in both Iron Man 2 and The Avengers with Jackson, and would later costar with him in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
In fact, the pair have appeared in a total of six films together over the years, including the 1996 Paul Thomas Anderson-directed Hard Eight.
Don’t forget Fury: Gwyneth didn’t realize that Samuel L. Jackson, who plays the central MCU character Nick Fury, was involved in the franchise

This isn’t the first time Gwyneth has forgotten MCU details, either, as in June she famously forgot she was in Spider-Man: Homecoming altogether.
When Paltrow guested on the Netflix series The Chef Show, she was talking to chef/host Jon Favreau, who directed her in Iron Man and Iron Man 2.
Favreau had to remind the star that she cameoed at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming.
‘We were in Spider-Man together,’ Favreau says to Paltrow at one point during the episode while they are cooking. ‘Remember we were on Spider-Man?’
Remember, Ms. Potts? This isn’t the first time Gwyneth, seen here opposite Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man 2, has forgotten MCU details
Happy says: Jon Favreau, who directed Paltrow in Iron Man and Iron Man 2, had to remind the star that she cameoed at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming
Paltrow looks at him quizzically, and says, ‘We weren’t in Spider-Man. No, I was in Avengers…’
When Gwyneth finally realizes her snub, she starts laughing.
‘Oh, yes. That was Spider-Man?! Oh my God!’
Paltrow played Pepper Potts in the MCU in both the Iron Man and Avengers franchises.
Potts starts out as Tony Stark’s (Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr.) professional assistant, and later becomes his love interest.
Gwyneth, as Pepper, even gets to don the Iron Man suit at several points over the films.
In spite of this, the actress recently said she is done with the Marvel movies, as she feels she has aged out of that genre.
While she has mostly been focusing on her lifestyle company Goop, she is returning to another acting role, on her husband Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy’s new streaming series The Politician.
