Holly Willoughby gags at the smell of haddock as she battles a hangover on live TV after ‘downing 10 margaritas’ during wild night out

The stomach-churning combination of fish, eggs and energetic dancing usually don’t mix on a hangover, but Holly Willoughby had to contend with all of the above during Thursday’s edition of This Morning.

The presenter was feeling her way through the two-hour magazine show after spending the previous night enthusiastically downing ten margaritas at a wrap party thrown on behalf of Celebrity Juice.

And she appeared to be regretting her exuberant actions during This Morning’s obligatory cooking segment after joining co-host Phillip Schofield and resident chef Phil Vickery in the studio kitchen.

With pungent fish based dish Kedgeree at the top of the menu, a reluctant Holly, 38, admitted the overwhelming aroma of Vickery’s ingredients was making her feel sick.

‘We had the Celebrity Juice wrap party last night,’ she explained. ‘The smell of haddock in this studio is not helpful.’

Usually viewed as a wholesome lunch, the meal – brought back to England by British colonials returning from India – also includes curry powder, rice, parsley and plenty of poached egg.

But Holly’s admission that she was happy to eat eggs in her current state prompted a worried Phil to step in.

‘I don’t like egg and she’s hungover,’ he told the chef. ‘Can we have something else?’

Their general indifference to the culinary classic didn’t go down well with a miffed Vickery, who walked off set in mock outrage ahead of the segment.

‘Right, so Phil isn’t going to eat eggs, and you’re not going to eat fish?’ he barked. ‘I’ve had enough of this.’

However he was soon back to prepare the divisive dish with Phil and Holly, who atoned for her previous admission by insisting she usually enjoys eating fish.

‘I love smoked haddock,’ she explained. ‘It’s just the smell of it that’s quite strong.’

But it was the cause of her hangover that interested Phil, who urged his co-host to explain herself for the benefit of their viewers.

‘I was contractually obliged to drink ten margaritas,’ she admitted as the segment came to an end.

With spirits lifted, the presenter was encouraged to perform their trademark dance around the studio chairs, and she later admitted she was delighted to be joined by the fictional characters.

Sharing a shot of herself with the Teletubbies  shortly afterwards, she wrote: ‘Best selfie ever!’
