With his dark sunglasses and closely cropped hair, the swimming great could have passed for one of Italy’s elite fashion ‘mafiosa’.

The Australian sporting icon was in good company at the fashion show, sitting alongside Hollywood A-listers Samuel L Jackson, 70, and Alexander Skarsgard, 42.

He also rubbed shoulders with Italian singer Marco Mengoni, 30,  Scottish actor Richard Madden, 32, and polo player Padmanabh Singh, 20.

Samuel upped the style factor with his very chic white pinstriped double-breasted suit and aqua green T-shirt.

The Pulp Fiction star accessorised his outfit with a pair of round-rimmed spectacles, in contrast to his four male companions who felt compelled to shield their eyes behind dark sunglasses.

Skarsgard looked tres cool in a dark blue suit while Madden opted for basic black in a similar style.

The large lapels on Mengoni’s dark-blue suit were the Italian singer’s nod to formal wear, however he gave the outfit a modern touch with a black crew neck T-shirt.

Observers at the event noted that there wasn’t much elbow room for the gentlemen, with all appearing cramped as they sat alongside each other.
