Iggy Azalea just released her long-awaited sophomore album, In My Defense.
But longtime fans will remember that the rapper’s original second album, Digital Distortion was due out in 2017, before abruptly being canceled after a string of failed singles.
Now the 29-year-old has revealed exactly what happened to the scrapped project, telling Entertainment Weekly that behind-the-scenes turmoil torpedoed the album.

‘There were people I didn’t trust or who didn’t have my best interests in mind in multiple parts of my career,’ she explained.
‘I felt like I was firing and hiring an entirely new team, and even that was rocky because the [next] person I hired only managed me for six months before abruptly passing away,’ she continued.

Iggy also told the publication that she’s preparing to return to the studio in ‘September of October’ to start recording her third album.
The first single from Digital Distortion, Team, was released in 2016.
The EDM-inspired track reached No. 42 on the Hot 100 and was eventually certified gold.
However, the next singles from the album, Mo Bounce, Switch, and Savior all failed to chart.

In late 2017, she officially scrapped the project and turned her attention towards her EP, Survive The Summer.
On Friday, the Fancy rapper returned with her second full-length album, In My Defense.
