Jason Priestley reflects on Beverly Hills, 90210 without Luke Perry: ‘He was a big part of everybody’s life’

He starred as Brandon Walsh in the coming-of-age television show about a group of kids growing up in the affluent neighborhood of Beverly Hills, California.

And Jason Priestley admitted that the new reboot of the show would have a massive void without Luke Perry after the actor died following a stroke earlier this year at the age of 52.

Priestley reflected on how Luke was ‘a big part of everybody’s life’ and creating the new version of 90210 was difficult without his longtime friend by his side.

‘Well, you know, that was hard,’ Priestley told Eva Pilgrim during a sit-down interview with Good Morning America. ‘That was — that was the hardest thing of the whole process, I think.’

Perry died on March 4 after suffering a stroke at his home in Sherman Oaks, California

‘Luke was a big personality and had a big heart and he was a big part of everybody’s life and so not having him there … he definitely left a vacancy there that we all felt,’ Priestley said.

Luke portrayed angsty teen Dylan McKay for six seasons and returned as a special guest for the final two seasons of Aaron Spelling’s hit drama.

McKay was best friends with Walsh and fell in and out of love with Jennie Garth’s character Kelly Taylor, with the on-screen couple eventually having a son together named Sammy.

Just one week before his death, a revival of the show as confirmed with the entire cast set to return, including: Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green, Tori Spelling and Shannen Doherty.

‘You do see Brandon at The Peach Pit … It’s very meta and its very multi-layered,’ Jason admitted of the new show.

Filming began earlier this year in Vancouver, Canada, and Priestley added that Carol Potter, who played his mother, Syndey Walsh, will also return to the new show, which originally aired in 1990.

‘I think people at this point in time look at me and think I look like Brandon Walsh’s dad or his older, much more tired brother,’ Priestley joked.

BH90210 is set to premiere on Aug. 7 at 8 p.m. on the Fox network.
