Jodie Kidd EXC Model, 40, hits out at the ‘unrealistic’ expectations on working mothers

Jodie Kidd has weighed in on the pressures placed upon mothers and how she manages to juggle her busy life.

The model, 40, spoke candidly to MailOnline about how she balances a modelling career, sporting career, her relationship with ‘amazing’ beau Joseph Bates and being mother to seven-year-old son Indio, who she shares with ex Andrea Vianini.

Amid the rest of her commitments, Jodie is also a philanthropist and is preparing to take part in the Cash And Rocket rally, where she will join influential women in a four-day all-female road trip that empowers 80 women to ‘drive for change’.

Jodie joins a host of female stars, including Jodie Kidd and Chloe Green, in driving across four cities to fundraise for charities that support women and children around the world. The project has thus far raised a total of £3.5million ($4.5million).

The ladies will be driving between London, Paris, Geneva and Monte Carlo from June 6 to June 10, with Jodie admitting she loves the whole energy.

The race is organised by Julie Brangstrup, who Jodie considers a best friend, as she said: ‘She’s my best friend, she’s Godparent to my son, I am to hers. I’ve been involved from moment one…

‘We’ve done many rallies in the past so when she wanted to do the all women one to raise money for other women and empowerment, I wanted to be involved…

‘I’ve been taken along on this journey that she’s done. I’m honoured to be taken along with this journey she’s done. I’ve been to Africa to see the work she’s done.’

Following on the empowerment line, Jodie discussed how she can be empowered and how she juggles being a mum with her working life and her two-year long relationship with her ‘amazing’ beau.

She said: ‘I have a really good team, I’ve got an amazing partner, an incredible family. It’s all about support and supporting each other…

‘It’s about knowing Indy is going to be with Joe and with granddad and Mike, I’m very lucky to have such a supportive team around and vice versa and we can make things happen. Everyone’s lives are like that but I’m very thankful for my family and partner.’

Jodie’s romance with Joseph comes after a turbulent romantic life. She married Aidan Butler in 2005 after a year of romance, but the pair split after 18 months.

She then embarked on a relationship with Argentinian polo player Andrea, and the pair welcomed son Indio together in 2011, before parting ways two years later.

The blonde went on to tie the knot with author David Blakeley in 2014, but the marriage was collapsed in just four months.

Aside from her romances, staunch feminist Jodie spoke of expectations placed upon women, she said: ‘It’s really tough and unrealistic to have these expectations as a good mother, good wife, good businesswoman and it’s so unrealistic and it it can be quiet damaging to have these aspirations and think they’re going to fail…

‘That’s not something that you should be putting yourself out about. You do the best you can and that best I’m sure is fantastic and it’s making sure you’re careful about social media. Everyone has to be learning about not being too hard on yourself.’

After turning her back on modelling and kicking off a career in motorsports, she confessed she has been affected by sexism – yet she’s determined to fight.

She said: ‘There’s little sexism in fashion, but when I decided to give it all up and become a motor driver that probably wasn’t the brightest for women…

‘Not only doing races where I was the only woman but also a model and blonde, where people would say should you be driving that?…

‘I’ve been battling sexism most of my life because of the sports I play, golf on a high level, racing cars, riding horses. The fashion industry was a break for this…

‘All the other avenues I’ve done, sports-related have been (sexist). That’s why I’m such a strong advocate. I want to beat the boys – that’s why I’m up there with in the trenches.’

Rather than letting the treatment get her down, she thrives from it, as she said: ‘It drives me more, the more comments you hear that you shouldn’t be driving cars etc, it makes me want to do more, drive harder, train harder, if they don’t think I can play polo – I’ll do it.’

In her determination to empower Indio, she admits: ‘He’s been brought up around these strong women. Rach is this wonderful matriarchal character who lives with us and she’s this wonderful woman who’s from the West Country…

‘She has been through the war. She’s 89. Anything is possible, she has a cure for anything, if you want anything done properly do it yourself. He has huge respect and admires women, so hopefully we’ve brought him up in a strong environment.’
