Karl Stefanovic in hot water with Nine after leaving his security pass in a BAR

Whoops! Karl Stefanovic in hot water with Channel Nine after leaving his security pass in a BAR – before it ‘does the rounds’ among Liberal politicians

Karl Stefanovic has joked he’s made it ‘even harder’ for himself to go back to Channel 9, after he accidentally left his Nine Network security pass in a bar.

According to Sydney Morning Herald’s CBD column, the TV presenter forgot to pick up his lanyard from a drinks table and Liberal politicians couldn’t resist trying it on.

His pass reportedly ‘did the rounds’ all night and on hearing about his mishap, axed Today host Karl, 44, jokingly thanked the politicians for doing him no favours.

It’s believed his pass has now been safely returned, with Karl telling the publication in good humour: ‘Thanks for making it even harder for me to get into the Channel 9 building.’

Karl was previously a regular at Channel 9, ever since he first joined the network back in 2002, and became known for his hosting role on the Today show.

He was, however, unceremoniously booted off the breakfast show last year in a staff shake-up, that followed claims his popularity with female viewers had declined.

Karl’s personal life came under scrutiny following his split from first wife Cassandra Thorbun in 2016.

Following his Today exit, he then found himself caught up in a whirlwind of negative publicity in the lead-up to his second wedding to wife Jasmine Yarbrough.

So much so, that the TV star has since confessed his mental health suffered, as he struggled to cope with the ‘unwarranted attention’.

Karl took a six-month break away from the spotlight and made his return to the public eye with a red carpet appearance at the Logie Awards in June.

Rumours have been rife that he is now set to return to the Today show and Karl will return to Channel 9 to work on 60 Minutes, which he previously worked on in 2011.

Woman’s Day reports Karl’s return to Channel 9 was influenced by 2GB broadcaster Ray Hadley, who was pivotal in securing Karl’s place on the current affairs program.

‘The only reason Karl has a lifeline [with the network] is because of Ray. He’s very close to Nine bosses an has been pivotal in Karl’s comeback,’ a source revealed.
