Keira Maguire says ‘nobody takes The Bachelorette seriously’ after Ali Oetjen’s season flopped – as she gives the new Bachelor her seal of approval
Keira Maguire has hit out at The Bachelorette, saying that ‘nobody takes it seriously’ and it isn’t half as good as The Bachelor.
The reality TV veteran was discussing the new series of The Bachelor on The Buzz podcast this week when she took a swipe at the franchise’s female-fronted spin-off.
She told co-hosts Mikkayla Mossop and Joey Carroll that she only follows couples formed on The Bachelor and isn’t interested in any of the Bachelorettes and their boyfriends.
Having her say: Former Bachelor star Keira Maguire has hit out at The Bachelorette and said she doesn’t take the dating series ‘seriously’ during the latest episode of The Buzz podcast
Keira, who has starred on The Bachelor and its spin-off Bachelor In Paradise, made the claim after listing a string of successful couples from The Bachelor alone.
She argued that contestants really do find love on the series and used the example of Matty J and Laura Byrne who got together on the show in 2017, are now engaged and recently welcomed a baby daughter.
‘The only show I take seriously when it comes to love is The Bachelor. Not even The Bachelorette,’ Keira said, before stressing: ‘The Bachelor.’
Ouch: She suggested to her co-hosts Mikkayla Mossop and Joey Carroll on the podcast that she only values the relationships formed on The Bachelor and not its counterpart – Pictured: 2018 Bachelorette Ali Oetjen
When Mikkayla pointed out that there are still couples going strong from The Bachelorette too – namely Ali Oetjen and Taite Radley, Keira slightly backtracked.
‘Yeah, no, it does do well,’ she said in response.
Keira’s admission will no doubt come as another blow for The Bachelorette amid its ratings struggles of late.
Last year, the show brought in only 631,000 metro viewers – its lowest ratings to date in the show’s history, according to news.com.au.
Struggle: Keira’s admission will no doubt come as another blow for The Bachelorette amid its ratings battle – the show’s 2018 debut reportedly brought in its lowest ratings to date in Bachelorette history
Viewing figures revealed The Bachelorette’s 2018 season debut was beaten by an episode of renovation series The Block, airing at the same time, by almost a third.
Meanwhile, The Bachelor’s sixth season with Nick Cummins was a ratings hit and its opening episode last year drew in the highest ratings for a first episode in the history of both The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.
Despite its ratings struggle, The Bachelorette has already begun filming for its fifth season with Angie Kent and the series is set to air on Channel 10 later this year.
New guy in town: While discussing The Bachelor, Keira also shared her thoughts on the show’s new star Matt Agnew and gave him her seal of approval by branding him a ‘refreshing’ choice
While discussing The Bachelor, Keira also shared her thoughts on the show’s new star Matt Agnew and gave him her seal of approval.
‘He’s actually very good-looking,’ she gushed. ‘Very sexy Superman vibe, I hope that they’ve got some decent women for him.’
She then appeared to take aim at some of the show’s former Bachelors by branding Matt a ‘refreshing’ choice by producers.
Keira said: ‘A lot of people are questionable, but it’s refreshing to have someone who is successful, who is good-looking and seems like they’ve got their s**t together.’
