‘My family have sacrificed a lot for my career’: Major departure from Seven’s Sunrise as longstanding host ‘scales back role due to gruelling schedule’

Seven’s Sunrise is reportedly set to lose a longstanding star very soon.

Basil Zempilas, who has been with the network since 1994, is set to ‘scale back’ his duties as current host of Weekend Sunrise.

According to TV Tonight, the Perth-based broadcaster will remain ‘part of the Sunrise inner circle’ but is allegedly focusing on family going forward.

At present, Basil, 48, is flying to Sydney each weekend for Weekend Sunrise, while presenting weeknight sports reports for Seven News in Perth.

Alongside his commitments for the network, he also has a top-rated breakfast radio show with Steve Mills on 6PR each weekday morning in Western Australia.

The publication claimed on Saturday that his ‘gruelling schedule’ is most likely the reason behind his allegedly revised workload for Seven.

‘Sunrise is on the hunt for a new host for its weekend edition,’ TV Blackbox claimed on Saturday, with Basil’s ‘scaled back’ duties yet to be officially announced.

In February, the father-of-three, who has been co-hosting Weekend Sunrise since March 2018, revealed it has been difficult for his family.

‘There’s no doubt that [my wife] Amy and my family, the three kids have sacrificed a lot for my career, all of it I suppose,’ he told The West Australian.

‘All of my children have been born in the time that I have been travelling away interstate. I’m very aware had it not been for their support and flexibility I wouldn’t be able to do the things that I’m doing.’

Last weekend, Basil took to Instagram to reveal his daughter Chloe had joined him on his latest trip to Sydney.

Sharing a picture of the pair behind the Sunrise desk, he wrote: ‘Very special to have Chloe with me this weekend @sunriseon7 for her first solo trip over with daddy.

‘We’re having the best time.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Seven for comment.
