Margot Robbie kept a brave face at the funeral of her beloved grandmother Verna Kessler in Dalby, Queensland on Saturday.

The Oscar-nominated actress, 28, fought back tears as she paid her respects to the woman she and her siblings affectionately called ‘Narnie’.

The I, Tonya star dressed conservatively in a white patterned frock and wore a solemn expression on her face during the rain-soaked burial service.

Margot looked heartbroken as she paid her last respects to her grandmother, who died peacefully on April 13.

The mourners gathered under a sea of umbrellas at Myall Remembrance Park shortly after 11:30am.

After the burial, Margot spoke to her younger brother Cameron and other relatives under a protective awning.

A previous funeral ceremony had been held at Trinity Lutheran Church on the Gold Coast on Wednesday, April 24.

However, the burial itself was postponed so that Margot, who is based in Los Angeles with her husband Tom Ackerley, could attend.

Tom was not pictured at the burial in Dalby on Saturday morning.

An obituary for Verna published by the Toowoomba Chronicle reads: ‘Late of Ashmore, formally of Dalby, [Verna] passed away peacefully on 13th April 2019, aged 92 years.

‘Beloved Wife of Herbert. Loved Mother and Mother in-law of Sarie, Jacqueline and Greg and James and Mary Ann. Loving Narnie of Anya, Lachlan, Margot, Cameron, Christian, Julia. Adored Great-Narnie of Sebastian. 

‘Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Verna’s funeral, to be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 1 Carey Lane, Southport, service commencing at 11am, Wednesday, 24th April, followed by interment at Myall Remembrance Park, Bunya Highway, Dalby, service commencing at 11:30am, Saturday, 4th May.’

Margot was born in Dalby and raised in the Gold Coast hinterland. She moved to Melbourne aged 17 to launch her acting career.

In 2012, she landed her breakout Hollywood role in The Wold of Wall Street alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.

In recent years, she has branched out from acting into film producing. She founded the production company LuckyChap Entertainment in 2014.

She earned her first Oscar for her performance as disgraced U.S. figure skater Tonya Harding in the 2017 biopic I, Tonya.
