Paul Hollywood is mocked by viewers for asking Bake Off contestant, 20, if his ‘mum knew he was out’

Paul Hollywood has been ridiculed by fans for poking fun at a young Bake Off contestant over his age, despite his ex being just two year’s older when they met.

The Bake Off judge, 53, asked the 20-year-old hopeful whether his ‘mum knew he was out’ in an awkward engage during the first episode of the show on Tuesday.

However viewers were quick to accuse the TV star of hypocrisy due to the fact he dated 24-year-old Summer Monteys Fulam, who he has recently split from after he asked her to sign a non disclosure agreement.

While the bakers commenced work on their cakes, Paul and his co-judge Prue Leith walked around the tent and got to know the latest batch of contestants.

When they approached Jamie Finn, they were joined by presenter Sandi Toksvig who asked Jamie, who is currently on a gap year, how old he was.

Jamie replied ‘I’m 20’, before Paul jumped in and responded with ‘Does your mum know you’re here?’ and he confirmed he was ‘allowed out’.

Fans were quick to point out that Paul’s ex Summer was just two years older when they began dating, after they met while organising his ex wife’s birthday party.

Following the scene one viewer penned: ‘Dude your ex girlfriend was two years older when you left your wife and kids for her.’

While another fan responded to the tweet with a meme which read: ‘That is a gorgeous cup of tea.’

A third said: ‘Paul asking “does your mum know you’re here” when the baker is only four years younger than Paul’s ex girlfriend! #GBBO2019.’

Paul was furiously dumped by Summer last month after he asked her to sign a non-disclosure agreement, which would ban her from discussing their relationship.

The barmaid said she felt ‘betrayed’ over the TV chef pressurising her to sign a gagging order as she threatened to write a tell-all book.

Taking to Instagram earlier this month, she revealed she is pursuing legal action after he claimed she is ‘courting publicity’ and trying to cash in on their split.

In the post, which consisted of just the text statement, Summer wrote: ‘I am very disappointed and distressed by false and highly defamatory statements that Paul has made about me online since our breakup.

‘I have had no alternative but to instruct my solicitors Brett Wilson LLP to pursue legal proceedings against Paul in order to obtain vindication.

‘I have never courted publicity over my relationship with Paul and I am deeply disappointed that the relationship has ended in this way. I have no further comment on the matter and ask that my and my family’s privacy be respected.’

A representative for Paul Hollywood declined to comment when contacted by MailOnline.

It comes after Paul took to Instagram on Monday to post a serious-looking selfie and accused Summer of trying to ‘dupe’ the public, cash-in on their split and attempt to ‘play games.’

He said: ‘Thank you for your messages I’ve been receiving it means a lot. My silence on any matters is not a sign of weakness or agreement of what’s been said, merely I prefer a quiet life away from my day job.

‘Take what’s read with a pinch of salt and read between the lines. I know the public can’t be duped into believing what’s out there from a person making money selling stories and continuously courting the paps.’

He added: ‘There’s always two sides to a story you’ve only heard one.. but alas I don’t play those games.’

Following their break-up Summer stormed out of the property that she shared with Paul, bringing an end to their 20-month relationship.

The couple’s split comes as Paul prepares for a divorce hearing with his estranged wife who ended her 19 years of marriage with the star in 2017.

Alexandra filed for divorce on the grounds that Paul had committed adultery and last month district judge Robert Duddridge ruled that the estranged wife found it ‘intolerable’ to live with the chef.

Last month, a judge granted Paul and his estranged wife a decree nisi after their split. But the decree absolute to end the marriage altogether will have to await a financial settlement.

It is understood that Alex wants half of the star’s cash after she accused him of ‘adultery’ in papers submitted to the Central Family Court in London.

A source close to the family said: ‘This is more like months rather than weeks off now, Paul isn’t prepared to give Alex the reasonable sum that she is entitled to at this stage.

‘She had hoped it would be straightforward but it is now far from that. It’s really sad that it is getting this nasty, everyone wants to move on now – nobody more than Summer.’
