Every Outfit on Sex and the City is a popular account (even verified) that pays tribute to the thousands of memorable fashion moments created by costume designer Patricia Field on the beloved HBO show.

Field was also the creative mind behind the looks in The Devil Wears Prada and Ugly Betty.

A recent post presented a photo of Carrie, Samantha and Miranda in the Los Angeles-based season three episode Escape from New York.

In it, Carrie wears a stunning floral dress with ruffled detailing and a pair of mismatched Louboutin heels.

Mystery solved: Fortunately, Parker came to the rescue with an answer: 'Pat and I chose to do one of each. Perhaps because both were so delicious in color and seemed in harmony with the dress but also because we simply loved doing one of each'

The pink and blue heels still perfectly complement the ensemble.

But the fan behind the account had to know the story behind this choice: ‘Did Carrie buy these mismatched sandals straight off the rack?

‘Or did she purchase two separate pairs and mix them together herself? Are they a metaphor for her inability to choose between Aidan and Big?

‘Unfortunately, we have no answers.’

Fortunately, Parker came to the rescue with an answer to the fashion mystery that previously remained unsolved since the episode aired in 2000.

She responded: ‘Here is the official answer and I’m sure approved by the great and legendary [Field].
